Come to the party…and bring your own beer 

The easiest way to insure that your own Oktoberfest party doesn’t break the bank is to host the party but ask everyone to bring their own brews.  If they can bring authentic German brews, the party will be a smashing success..

No Solo cups here!

Don’t have the friends and family bring exotic brews and then serve those tasty concoctions in a plastic cup.  There’s something sacrilegious about that! Instead, get personalized beer boot mugs or steins at wholesale prices for your guests. These double as party favors they can take home to remember your bash.

Invite the sausage 

If the beer is already on tap, invite friends and family to bring their own favorite sausages to throw on the grill.  This will help save a ton of money on meat.  Of course, if they want to bring along some brews of their own to add to the mix, the more the merrier and an even less expensive party is in full gear. 

Let’s get twisted 

One of the best things that goes along with beer is pretzels, and soft pretzels in particular are the desired commodity.  If someone likes baking, homemade soft pretzels are inexpensive and taste a whole lot better than those from the frozen food section at the grocery store.

Oh, those Edelweiss hats! 

Go online to sites like Pinterest and create traditional edelweiss hats from craft paper as well as other craft supplies.  Other personalized Oktoberfest party favors will include collapsible koozies, coasters, and beer bottle openers personalized with a festive clipart. These will help you save the budget even more money.

That’s music to their ears 

Chances are that it’s not in the budget to hire a good tavern band and the kids are probably not the musicians they fancy themselves to be.  With the advent of the digital age a free subscription to Spotify or Pandora could be exactly what is needed.  With properly positioned Bluetooth speakers, the house and backyard can sound like the neighborhood pub.

The incredible bulk

As the time for the Oktoberfest party draws near, begin purchasing the beer in advance in 12 or 24 count sizes.  Or, better yet, by the keg.  Either way, it will be a whole lot cheaper per serving than trying to invest in a lot of smaller count beers trying to get as many flavors as possible. 

Do it while the sun shines

The real Oktoberfest occurs over a 16-day period (and that’s both days and nights).  The daytime activities are a lot less rowdy, but they’re still fun.  Money for beer and food could be saved if the event was hosted in the afternoon and having it conclude at sunset.  Most guests won’t consume as much food or drink during the daytime as they do at night. 

Ah! The Apple Strudel 

Don’t let the guests go home without their personalized Oktoberfest party favors or a nice helping of homemade apple strudel.  Because of the frozen puff pastries on the market, these gems are easy and inexpensive to make.
